K-pop Album Versions and Photocard Terms Explained: Photobooks, Digipacks, Platform Albums, Lucky Draws
A single K-pop album is often released in several "versions," and each version comes with different inclusions. Pre-order announcements can be full of unfamiliar terms the first time you see them, so we've rounded up the most common ones. Actual contents differ for every album, so always check the contents list published by the agency or retailer.
Version names
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Photobook version | A photo book-style package. It often comes with a CD, photocards and more. |
| Digipack / jewel / sleeve | Terms for the type of case. These are usually smaller and lighter than photobook versions. |
| Member versions | Versions with a different cover or inclusions for each member. |
| Platform album | A format where you listen through an app or QR code instead of a physical CD. Check each chart's criteria to see whether it counts. |
| Limited edition | Sold only in a set quantity or for a set period. There may be no additional pressings. |

Photocards and pre-order benefits
- Photocard (pocha): A photo card included in the album. Often you get a random card featuring one or some of the members.
- Retailer benefit: A photocard or merch item given separately when you buy from a specific retailer. The design differs by retailer, so these are called "benefit photocards."
- Lucky draw: A retailer event where you receive photocards through a draw after purchase.
- Random inclusions: The version or photocards are packed at random, meaning you can't choose which ones you get.
What to check before you buy
- Whether you can choose the version or it ships at random
- The conditions for receiving benefits and whether they end once stock runs out
- The shipping date (which may differ from the release date) and the pre-order cancellation deadline
- That refunds for a simple change of mind are often not possible once the album is opened
